English to Estonian
Medical
Medical: Instruments
This is a description of a medical device consisting of two parts:
A sensor and a measuring unit.
The source text reads:
"The Sensor is used with the Unit, for measurement of... The Device is intended for..."
...where "Device" refers to the entire apparatus (both the Sensor and the Unit).
In Estonian, Device must be translated as Seade, since it's defined by (EU) 2017/746 (IVDR) Art. 2 (1).
Since both terms occur in the same paragraph, we are looking for a translation of the term "Unit" which is separate and distinct from "Seade".
Which term (any other than Seade) can be used to describe Unit?
Other occurrences in the same IFU:
"the Unit is an automated instrument for the diagnostic procedure..."
"the Unit must be connected to a power supply"
"When the Unit starts it performs a measurement functionality self test"
"The main user interface is a touch screen on the Unit"

"Seadis" is a part of a machine/device/apparatus that is independent in construction but can't be used alone (e.g. a document feeder on a large copier would be "seadis"). Maybe you can use "moodul" (module/unit), "sõlm" (nodule/unit), "plokk" (block/unit), "aparaat" (apparatus). Or combine any of them with "põhi-" (main) to use something like "põhimoodul" (main module). Can you maybe just call it "instrument" instead of "unit"?
