膝盖(腿)深坑
In this context, well means 阱;深坑;竖井;尤指:楼梯井 - it's space behind the front seats for someone to sit down and still have plenty of leg room. The knee wells are spaces created just for the knee's were you knee's well be given ample space, probably useful for those particularly tall people. In my humble opinion, it would be what I said above.
