khepry - khepri - khepree

khepri pronounced as khepry (rhyming with windy)
it should be a male not a female name as it is related to God of Morning Sun (a male God in ancient Egyptian).. the word is said to mean "To Become" or "this who becomes".

to pronunce the "kh", it's a little similar to the "r" as pronounced in French language, but more likely to the German "ch" as in machst, machen, Munich.

agree Kirill Semenov : nice explanation, still I would not state that there is a *correct* initial pronounciation, all these are just accepted conventions

The problem is that nobody knows how to pronounce Ancient Egyptian!
The languange is reconstructed inclusively by hieroglyphs, and Ancient Egyptians did'nt mark vowels in written form (compare to old and modern Hebrew or Aravic) so all proper names from Ancient Egypt are "artificial".

Anyway, I guess that the last vowel should be pronounced as "ee" in the scientific tradition.

\"exclusively\" instead of \"inclusively\", sorry :)

I mean not that all names are \"artificial\", but the modern way to pronounce and write them is \"artificial\". Novody knows for sure, especially about vowels...

English

People have worshiped the Sun and deities who represent the Sun for all of recorded history. Hence, many beliefs and legends have been formed around this worship. Sun deities are generally (though not always) male, and usually the brother, father, husband and/or enemy of the lunar deity (usually female). They were often gods of truth, honesty, virtue, prophecy, intellect and fertility.
