Not sure whether this is cockpit, as previously asked... anyone?

aft deck

Given that this is a sort of saloon boat like that shown on this website

I think that this fits the bill best
Peer comment(s):

disagree Adam Smith : I think that if you look carefully at the reference you provided you'll see that they refer to the (back) "saloon". :-)

If you read properly you will find they refer to it as the 'back deck'
agree Dave Calderhead : If Adam had read on, he would have seen that the next sentence begins with 'Binnen'. Incidentally, can also be called 'after deck' [sounds a bit Dunglish, but 25,000+ hits on Google]

Thanks, Dave
agree Tina Vonhof (X) : I would go with 'aft section', leaving it undecided whether it is an open deck or an enclosed saloon.

rear cabin

If you want a narrowboat that make best use of cabin space, go for a 'traditional' type. This has a minimal amount of deck space, so that only one person can stand at the back. This makes it hard to take guests out for a cruise because they have to stay inside or clamber onto the roof. However, a major plus is that most trad boats have the engine inside the rear cabin and so you can work on the engine without freezing your hands or getting soaked.

The next compartment contains the flushing pump-out toilet, shower and wash basin with vanity mirror.
The rear cabin contains a berth that can be used either as a single or double bed and has the advantage that it can be left made up if desired. Opposite are a useful range of shelves, a radiator and wardrobe.

disagree Kate Hudson (X) : This is an open space at the rear of the boat

Aft / rear saloon

Given the numbers of people who can fit into this "kuip" (20 - 76?), this is could be a "saloon". Examples of which can be seen here:

It depends what you mean by "open", i.e. "open air" or "spacious". In the former then "open air saloon" would cover it (see ref.), in the latter then simply (spacious) saloon would work!
disagree Dave Calderhead : I agree with Kate - it is outside, not a saloon

I had actually read the full reference - it refers to both deck / saloon. I actually think that both you and Kate have gone off at the deep end here. Neither this nor Venter's are in any sense "wrong": whatever happened to just "neutrals"? -Mea culpa, too
