: well, I suppose it's a good idea to turn up for surgery sober, but VD's other entry is the one we use in English-on an empty stomach. :-) /that's just the way the question is stated. anyway sober isn't really an option in the context

If this is true then why does nuchter come up twice? The sentences read: moet je nuchter zijn. Op nuchtere maag. Saying twice the same thing? I agree to differ.
