a valor will die for his best friend, while a lady will make-up to appease her admirer.
士为知己者死，女为悦己者容。
a valor will die for his best friend, while a lady will make-up to appease herself.
士 could be translated as scholar,knight or warrior, but any one of these should be courageous enough for them not to be afraid of death.
