Arabic term

فشت

Arabic to English Other Ships, Sailing, Maritime part of dhow?
A Bedouin fishing expedition; the fish once caught are put in a cage which is then put in this. The place names mentioned are in the Gulf, that's the only indication I have regarding dialect. All help gratefully appreciated as always.

Discussion

Maureen Millington-Brodie (asker) Dec 21, 2011:
I think you are right, Steve, because the text mentions an opening in the cage where other fish enter and that the fish can be left in this cage for up to 10 days.
Steve Booth Dec 20, 2011:
Is there possibly a suggestion that the fish are placed in the pot as bait for something bigger? from what i can see the word usually refers to something which looks like it is a sort of small reef or rocky area where fish would gather. This would make sense if they were using the other fish as bait
