: 'عفة' does not mean modesty by any mean. if you are to link 'عفة' and 'غنى', then it would be used to describe the state of not feeling humilated for having to depend on others. as Quran states, "تحسبهم أغنياء من التعفف".

While many of the suggestions given are agreeable, one would think that this would go well with having "to do without"; i.e. لغنى عن. Continence is كبح النفس or self-restraint.
