consécutives réparties en périodes dont les durées sont fixées dans l'acte

Well, in the Congo we\'ve got \"rendus\" which I would say are obviously an area of land (or seabed) :

Les études entreprises dans les RENDUS démontrent de bonnes conditions de maturation des roches mères. Les principaux réservoirs sont les grès de Lucula, Neocomien et Chela dans l’antésalilfère et les grès de Vermelha et du Iabe dans le postsalifè

The Lemba Trough, or part of it, is onshore, despite its name:

The collapse of many state structures, inefficiency and bribery together with political instability have led to extreme difficulties within the industry. Once peace is restored to the country, however, it seems likely that the Kabila government, like its predecessors, will try to promote foreign interest in the onshore Lemba Trough, Tanganyika Graben blocks and Cuvette Centrale.

Only in a physical, geographical area could one do 3D seismic prospecting, drill wells, etc., not in or on any piece of paper ...
