Hilary Davies Shelby Nov 18, 2004:
Hello! Is this an article about a makeover, talking about the difference a professional look makes, or is it an article on how to spot a professional (i.e. good) hairstyle? Or is it about dressing for business and the kind of hairstyles to avoid?

How to tell a business-like hairstyle

What goes into a business-style hairdo, Get your hair ready for business

My first shot was "What a difference a do makes" (and the song will haunt me for the remainder of the day), but the -taugliche feels awkward if used in this meaning. So I guess this is really about what to change on a hairstyle to make it a business-like hairstyle. I'm very confident about my interpretation, less confident about the suggested translations.

What a difference the professional look makes!

I couldn't use "professional" hairstyle here because that would only mean having your hair cut by a professional, but I wanted to get away from "businesslike". To me, businesslike has overtones of "cursory/quick/brusque/unfriendly", as if the stylist had done a fast and professional job, but that the result wasn't particularly special. Not sure if anyone else will feel the same way...

neutral Cilian O'Tuama : you still need to get the 'hair' in there somewhere

yeah, i was hoping that the title of the article/context would contain it, so that it was obvious...hence the request for more context ;-)

How to spot a professional style

Of course, this could also mean something quite different to my first answer, depending on the target audience.
