Discussion

Fuad Yahya Oct 30, 2004:
In this case, the purpose of happens to be the removal of salt, but the word simply means drainage, any kind of drainage. It is even used in medicine, as in the term "paracentesis."
Non-ProZ.com Oct 27, 2004:
Desalting Water Thank you all for your suggestions.. After searching everywhere I settled on Desalting Water, as is the operation of removing salt from sand, so is the water that results from this operation.
Thanks.

saline drainage water

Salt is removed from soil by a drainage process. Here are a few references:

SALT TOLERANT FORAGES FOR THE REUSE OF SALINE DRAINAGE WATER

http://iapreview.ars.usda.gov/research/publications/publicat...

Drainage sustains irrigated agriculture by removing salt accumulated in the soil profile. However, this results in the degradation of the water quality of the water body that receives the drainage.

tap / clear / filtered water

بزل means, amongst other meanings, to tap /clear / filter / perforate. These imply either tap water or alternatives (clear or filtered) or well water. Maybe that will help you.

salt marshes/ salt swamp

My answer may not contradict that of Lyes and Sami, but it's up to you to choose which one is more accurate. This site http://www.iraqirabita.net/nw.asp?cknd=facts&cnd=101 is not working, unfortunately, but I managed to collect the following phrases from it from the google search page:
يستقبل هذا النهر سائر القنوات التي تنقل المياه المالحة المتجمعة من غسل التربة المالحة والمسماة بالجزائر بالسبخة وتسمي بالعراق مياه البزل. فالنهر عبارة عن مبزل عام. قبل حفره كانت عملية استصلاح الأراضي بغسلها محدودة بسبب صب مياه البزل في دجلة والفراة ورفع نسبة الملح بهما
The word سبخة gave me the clue - I checked it in the dictionary and found "salt marshes/ salt swamp". Isn't that what we in Egypt call الملاحات?

To be more precise, the answer should be \"salt marsh water\".. \"Salt marshes\" will do if you\'re referring to the whole body of water.

What?? Did you mean to write "Egypt"? In any case, when I wondered if it's the same as ملاحات in Egypt, I wasn't suggesting anything Egyptian. What's your point?
