Cuento corto
Buenas tardes,
Muchas gracias

Maybe something along these lines?
Peter's fireball eyes were glued to me, dazzling with the inebriation that had taken hold (of us).
Peter's eyes like fireballs were fixed on me, twinkling with the tipsyness that had us in its grip.

Thanks for your support. It really does need quite a bit of tweaking though; neither of my suggestions are supposed to be definitive.

bogged (as in "bogged us down")
Some of this depends on the intentions of the author, since I must admit that even in Spanish the collocation seems a bit ambiguous. With that said, "borrachera" and the sense of "bogged down" go well together, and could explain the reason behind the apparent anger of the friend under the influence of alcohol.
In any case, this is by no means the only option.
Definition of bog down: "to impede or be impeded physically or mentally "

: I also agree with William. This is by no means the only option. The sentence itself can be translated without the word "bogged" or "bogged down" in it.

bog down
Hola Jose Pablo,
Exito

(the drunken state) we were in
One way you could translate "la borrachera que se nos había estancado" would be "the drunken state we were in".

in our inebriated stupor
Couldn't 'stupor' convey their alcohol-driven inertia? And lighten the sentence...
