Coronarie puntellate

Italian to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
Hello all,

I am dealing with a medical translation from IT->EN as part of college coursework. I am stuck on the term "Coronarie puntellate" and having difficulty finding an equivalent. It features in an information leaflet for stents and their implantation. Here is the text below:

Coronarie puntellate

coronary artery support

Another idea would be support for the coronary arteries

The blood vessel stent has the advantages that the blood vessel stent is particularly applicable to coronary arteries, and good coronary artery support effects can be realized by the blood vessel stent;

puntellare

Appoggiarsi a un sostegno; sorreggersi, sostenersi

Normally, the purpose of the stents is to provide support to the arteries in order for the blood to flow without obstructions.

Buttressed coronary arteries

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3528239/

"Along came the bare-metal stent—a metallic buttress to solve all the problems of angioplasty—and, thereafter, the drug-eluting stent (DES), which “cured” restenosis (Fig. 2). Indeed, the stent was a godsend for those of us who do not use cardioplegia. The use of stents drastically reduced the probability of emergent surgery after attempted PCI8,9; however, the probability of new lesion formation or restenosis after intervention did not decrease.10"

"Spanning ribs enable canoes and massive sailing ships to float and withstand the battering of the seas. Bronze-age huts were supported by massive wooden hoops embedded in the walls, and the great cathedrals of Europe rose only by virtue of innovative buttress supports. Endovascular stents were designed with the expectation that they would similarly buttress the collapsible artery against deforming stress with the hope that they might break the vicious cycle of arterial stenosis, intervention, and restenosis."

As the term only appears in the section heading, you could also say "Buttressing the coronary arteries", with the word "buttressing" in quotes, as I admit it sounds odd even though used by several MT authors to explain the concept of stents.

"puntellate" clearly means "stented" but it's explaning the concept before actually introducing the word "stent" as the text is for non-experts.

A gerund might also work for Stuart and Aida's suggestion "Supporting the coronary arteries" , or "Reinforcing the coronary arteries"

"Scaffolding" also comes to mind, but it seems to be mostly associated with "bioresorbable stents" https://tinyurl.com/y2f58vxr

"Bare-metal stents have no special coating. They act as scaffolding to prop open blood vessels after they're widened with angioplasty."
