German term

nachgeschlagen (in this sense)

German to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general) in a patent
....ein Hohlanteil des Nietbundabschnittes wird zunaechst vorgeboerdelt und anschliessend mittels eines geeigneten Verarbeitungswerkzeug NACHGESCHLAGEN

I assume that in this sense, this term has nothing to do with "look up" or "consult". I'm thinking "beaten or pounded into shape" or something like that but I don't know the exact term to use.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Restruck/restriking makes sense and if you post it as an answer, you can have the points.
Alison MacG Nov 5, 2020:
FWIW The US and CA equivalents to this patent (which are of course translations) use restruck/restriking

... a hollow portion of the rivet collar section is initially pre-beaded and subsequently restruck by means of a suitable processing tool

restriking. (1) Striking a trimmed but slightly misaligned or otherwise faulty forging with one or more blows to improve alignment, improve surface condition, maintain close tolerances, increase hardness, or effect other improvements. (2) A sizing operation in which coining or stretching are utilized to correct or alter profiles and to counteract distortion.

something along these lines I think but by no means sure...

or maybe "peened"

When peening a rivet, one must resist the natural temptation to treat it like a nail. The idea is not to simply hammer away at the face of the rivet shank, smashing it ...

I agree with your gut instinct and of course nothing to do with "look up" etc.
