Discussion

Isabelle Johnson (asker) May 7, 2020:
Hello Wendy Thanks for that. Yes I saw that but it isn't clear what it refers to.
Wendy Streitparth May 7, 2020:
Therre are pictures of earrings with globo mammellato in the link below. Don't know if this helps.

Coppia di orecchini a globo mammellato proveniente da Bortigali,

Orecchino a globo mammellato rinvenuto a Cabras, presso Tharros.

n Sardegna ne sono stati ritrovati numerosi esemplari sianella versione minimale, sia nella configurazione detta“a globo mammellato”
Marco Solinas May 7, 2020:
To Asker Yes, a lot of guesswork, far too much.
Isabelle Johnson (asker) May 7, 2020:
Thanks very much Marco Very useful indeed. It's all a little inconclusive isn't it? As these examples are so varied. I might need to pass it back to the author, especially as I have, in any case, no idea how to translate it.
Marco Solinas May 7, 2020:
To Asker See this for the meaning of "mammellato": https://www.almaany.com/en/dict/en-it/mammellato/ . The pictures that I have found for something "mammellato" ( https://www.google.com/search?q="mammellato"&tbm=isch&source... ) show protrusions that (with a bit of imagination) suggest breasts.
Luca Gentili May 7, 2020:
Mammellato means "in the shape of a breast" (or at least resembling a nipple). Here you can see come pictures https://www.google.it/search?q=mammellato&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUK...
Isabelle Johnson (asker) May 7, 2020:
Yes's Phil's martellato does seem a possibility.
Isabelle Johnson (asker) May 7, 2020:
I suppose martellato is a possibility, though it feels like a bit of a long shot. I'll try to see if that is plausible for Egyptian antiquities.
Isabelle Johnson (asker) May 7, 2020:
Yes it might be a typo for mammellato though I found both on the web. I just don't understand what it means:
e.g.:http://vast-lab.org/thesaurus/ra/vocab/index.php?tema=1513&/...
philgoddard May 7, 2020:
Martellato?
Marco Solinas May 7, 2020:
To Asker Could it be a typo for "mammellato"? Something like this: https://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g1180051...
