One idea that comes to mind is that the second part (establishing rules - I presume for the children) varies according to the first part (how old the parents feel). This makes me think that radical restructuring could be required in this case. E.g. : "If we have children, the rules for their education will be established according to how old we actually feel." In other words, if you are a 55-year-old parent of a toddler but actually feel 30 then the education you give your child will not be same as if you actually feel about 70.

@all Looking at the fact that educating children is mentioned, i'd tend towards Sarojini's suggestion as it is not just biological age that counts. I would perhaps have said "our age and life situation"
