French term

les titres et pièces enregistrées

French to English Law/Patents Law (general)
Hi all -

I am translating a legal document in which arbitrator-rapporteur has been engaged.

I am not sure how to translate this phrase:
les titres et pièces enregistrées

Here is the context where he writes:
Ma mission étant d'entendre les Parties, de me faire représenter les titres et pièces enregistrées conformément à la loi, les concilier si faire se peut, sinon rédiger sur papier titré un rapport...

Thanks for your help!

Discussion

Michael Meskers (asker) Mar 18, 2017:
More context It is a claim against a transportation company which ultimately was found guilty of negligence, wrongful death of a young man and consequential injury to the surviving wife and children.
writeaway Mar 18, 2017:
It's obviously a stock phrase even so, context would be helpful
Daryo Mar 18, 2017:
'entendre les Parties, de me faire représenter les titres et pièces enregistrées conformément à la loi, les concilier si faire se peut,

can be found in archived documents dating even more than two and half centuries ago, so the most general / wide meaning for "titres" and "pièces enregistrées" should be assumed, as it's applied to all sorts of cases involving "un arbitre-rapporteur"

what is annoying is that you can find "les titres et pièces enregistrées" as well as "les titres et pièces enregistrés" (which you would expect to be correct).
writeaway Mar 18, 2017:
What is the actual context? This is only difficult because the actual context is missing. Is this a property transaction and if not, what is it?

submitted proofs of entitlement and documents

it's a one-fit-all formula used for centuries in ANY case involving "un arbitre-rapporteur"

this "arbiter" can only work with what was submitted by the litigants

un titre = in the wider possible meaning: proof of entitlement

context: this is obviously about all various documents that are part of the case, so they would have to be have been submitted by one party or another?

... so they would have to have been submitted by one party or another?
Note from asker:
I think your answer - and especially given your explanation , is excellent. Due to privacy and copyright concerns I have not been at liberty to give much more context - so apologies on that score. I can say this much: this case involved here is not at all recent. therefore your term, having been accepted and used for a long time is no doubt apt. Thanks again! Michael

agree AllegroTrans : I would even omit 'of entitlement'// no, I was thinking of "proofs and documents"

than just "titles"? Thanks!
neutral ph-b (X) : 'submitted' for enregistrées? (and just for info: greffe is masculine, i.e. au greffe)

pièces enregistrées au greffe du tribunal - given the context and that this is a general clause repeated in all sort of cases where else could it be "registered"??? in the land registry, register of vehicles, of airplanes, of ships,of nurses ..??
neutral Francois Boye : Do you know that patents have vouchers? https://www.bing.com/search?q=Patent Voucher&form=PRLNCS&pc=...

these are patents that are about e-vouchers NOT vouchers for a patent or as a part of a patent - can't see that anywhere ... // and anyway HERE the most general term is needed.

Without more context, this would be my best shot.
Or "equities".
Are you able to provide any more context?

Or, bearing in mind Daryo’s point below

deeds and documents recorded under the law (as previously) / deeds and recorded documents

if enregistrées refers only to pièces.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Daryo : les titres et pièces enregistrées => seules les "pièces" sont enregistrées [sauf erreur dans le texte original ...]// given the context, the only "registry" that I can see as making sense is "le greffe du tribunal"
2 hrs
Merci.
neutral AllegroTrans : "deeds" implies transfers of land or other specific formalities: I think this is simply about the documents submitted in a legal case whuch has gone to arbitration

vouchers and documents put on record

Voucher = piece of evidence or proof.
