German term

drehpfanne

German to English Tech/Engineering Transport / Transportation / Shipping Railway technology
Bild 7 zeigt die Drehpfannen, Anbau für das Drehgestell MD36.

This a presentation from a German company that makes bogies for international railways. The Drehpfanne is part of the bogie or Drehgestell.

Proposed translations

Selected

center plate

as it is (1) American (I assume, since you are based in the USA), and (2) part of the bogie itself. This, from the UIC Railway Dictionary.
Most of the postings above refer to the plate on the car underframe itself.

swivel ring

That's what Langenscheidt Technik has under "Bahn". Under Maschinen it offers bearing socket and pivot bearing.

pivot bearing, center casting / bogie pivot o. pin, upper center casting

is what Ernst suggests for obere Drehpfanne / untere Drehfpanne respectively
Peer comment(s):

agree Johannes Gleim : für "centre casting" und "pivot bearing" (untere Drehpfanne gemäß Union Internationale de Chemin de Fer, UIC)

swivel plate

or swivel bearing plate

A big greased bearing plate on the bogie which spreads the weight of the wagon load. Rather like the plate you can see on the back of a big articulated truck (called the tractor unit) when it has no trailer attatched.
