English term

residual tidal current

English Science Geology
In the case of winds blowing north, the wind produced an upwelling. The resulting alongshore component of the transport was northward, but an additional perpendicular drift tended to spread coastal waters toward the external continental shelf and the continental slope. This dispersal favoured interaction with the offshore currents flowing southward along the slope, the Tsugaru and Oyashio Currents, as well as the residual tidal current.

I found this about not the same context, of course!
residual current noun an electric current which flows briefly in a circuit after the voltage is reduced to zero, due to the momentum of the charge carriers.

Discussion

Didier Fourcot Oct 17, 2016:
remainder of tide at a given time? If there is some concept of time in the doc, "residual" could mean the tide effect at a given time far away from the maximum tide effect?
Masoud Kakouli Varnousfaderani (asker) Oct 15, 2016:
@Daryo If you read my post more carefully. I have myself added that the context is not the same! Thanks for your help.
Daryo Oct 15, 2016:
A question of viewpoint I think that these "residual tidal currents" are not some special tidal currents of the "residual" variety, but just the most ordinary/usual/normal tidal currents that are "residual" in relation to all other currents mentioned IOW their contribution to the total movements of oceanic water is minor.
Daryo Oct 15, 2016:
@ Asker You are talking of electrical currents while your text is plainly/obviously/blatantly about oceanic currents that behave quite differently! Unlikely to yield any useful clues ...
Masoud Kakouli Varnousfaderani (asker) Oct 14, 2016:
@ Tony At first I thought that it refers to the remainder of tidal currents, then I noticed that this is meaningless. Your suggestion is a good one and this could be even better if these currents (those that are stated in the text) were tidal currents.
Tony M Oct 14, 2016:
@ Asker Wihout specialist knowledge in this field, I assume they are referring to that part of the ebb-and-flow tidal current that is left after these other, constant, currents have been taken into account; i.e. the final resulting current once all the factors have been vectored together.
José Patrício Oct 14, 2016:
remainder tidal stream
Masoud Kakouli Varnousfaderani (asker) Oct 14, 2016:
More context Before reaching the open ocean, where large scale currents and mesoscale structures will transport and disperse them, the radionuclides are transported by the coastal circulation on the continental shelf. The coast creates a blocking effect that reduces dispersion and induces a dominant alongshore transport. In 2011, during the three months following the Fukushima Daiichi accident, the strongest winds blew predominantly toward the south (south-east or south-west) and towards the north. In the first case, the wind induced downwelling, with surface waters pushed against the coast, and the emergence of a coastal jet flowing southwards. In the case of winds blowing north, the wind produced an upwelling. The resulting alongshore component of the transport was northward, but an additional perpendicular drift tended to spread coastal waters toward the external shelf and the slope. This dispersal favoured interaction with the offshore currents flowing southward along the slope, the Tsugaru and Oyashio Currents, as well as the residual tidal current.

Apogean tides or tidal currents
Tides of decreased range or currents of decreased speed occurring monthly when the Moon is near apogee.

disagree Daryo : Doesn't make any sense for this ST - you are trying to fit "residual=small" in a way that is like pushing square pegs in round holes!

Yes,residual does not mean small.

The tidal residual current may play an important role in the mean flow in the Changjiang Bank region, in addition to other residual currents, such as the Taiwan.

I think this means that the tidal current never disappears completely

there will always be some current there/left over

don't know exactly how you have to use this explanation to render your translation but that's the meaning
Note from asker:
It is not important how I am going to use this explanation because I simply can use a footnote or brackets to add these details. The point is that we are not sure that what this word means! Thanks for your attention.

The map in the link below doesn't show Oyashio extension, but shows Kuroshio extension for your reference.
