Spanish term

la zona baja e inmediata de la fortificación

Spanish to English Other History
Hi,

I wonder can anyone help me with finding an accurate translation of "la zona baja e inmediata de la fortificacion" in the following sentence.

"...el castillo dejará de tener funciones militares, lo que permitió que la población torreña se desplazase a la zona baja e inmediata de la antigua fortificación. "

They're talking about the Castillo de Torre del Mar.

I have translated it provisionally as "the area below and next to the old fortification" but I'm not quite sure if this is capturing the meaning of the original.

Thank you so much!

the area( Immediately) below and (immediately) adjacent to

The idea of 'inmediata' here is ' colindante' IMHO;

Two possible placement options for ' immediate';
