German term

Nebenmaximum

German to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Works standards
Unfortuantely there is not much context, the term is on its own in a table. The topic is wind load and wind direction. Hopefully that helps. Thanks in advance!
Proposed translations (English)
3 +2 secondary maximum

Discussion

Cilian O'Tuama Mar 14, 2016:
units of measurement would count as context too
cb-translation (asker) Mar 14, 2016:
The only other words in the table are Richtungsmaximum and Richtungsminumum. The rest of the entries are numbers. Structural analysis is the right area.
Steffen Walter Mar 14, 2016:
No, ... ... the term is certainly not 'on its own' - there must be other terms in the table, too. Which are these? Is this about structural analysis/verification?

secondary maximum

"Although the winds from 220o and 230o dominate at both these stations, each has a secondary maximum direction. This is clearest at New River, where a northerly wind (directions between 350o and 40o) is common."
https://www.unc.edu/courses/2008ss2/geog/111/001/Winds/winds...

"While the north-northwest wind direction is of the highest frequency, the secondary maximum is attained at the northwest direction."

... and plenty of other references to "secondary maximum" in connection with wind direction if you google the term.

This might as well refer to a mathematical context (a curve in a diagram) - cf. http://www.proz.com/kudoz/english_to_german/physics/771314-t...
