German term

tragen

Danke!

Thanks Bianca!

Armorel, I ended up using your translation. If you want to enter it as an answer, I'll give you the points.
Bianca Schönhofer (asker) Jan 29, 2016:
That was also my initial thought, Armorel - die Entwicklerkalkulation muss die Grundstücke (preislich) tragen können. I actually quite like your suggestion.
Armorel Young Jan 29, 2016:
subject? It's a difficult sentence - I'm not absolutely convinced by Adrian's statement that Identifikation is the subject, since the subject could also be "Entwicklerkalkulation" - die Entwicklerkalkulation trägt auch die Identifikation dieser Grundstücke - or in other words plots that are also feasible in terms of the developer's costs calculations.

that are also feasible ...

... in terms of the developer's cost calculations

is how I interpret it.

support; be amenable to

Identifikation must be the subject/rheme, so surely cannot mean finanziell tragbar > financially viable.

...in der Identifikation geeigneter Grundstücke, die auch die Entwicklerkalkulation ***trägt*** > ....the identification of suitable properties that is also amenable to (is also one that supports) the developer's (way of) costing.
Example sentence:

concrete actions which are relatively amenable to costing

Note from asker:
Thanks for your suggestion, Adrian. The client confirmed that it was indeed supposed to mean "feasible/financially viable".

makes development feasible

Tried to find solutions a little closer to the German angle but they didn't look good..

"The challenge is in identifying suitable real estate that makes development feasible depending on the level of rental income that can be achieved."

Two more options:
"The challenge is in identifying suitable real estate to drive the feasibility calculation which is based on the level of rental income that can be achieved."

"The challenge is in identifying suitable real estate that makes the calculation/development scheme feasible, depending on the level of rental income that can be achieved."
Note from asker:
Thanks for your suggestions, Michael! I also liked your last one but wanted to stay as close to the German as possible in this case.
