English term

put for an eagle

Non-PRO English to Hungarian Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation golf
How many birdies you got?
Two. And I putted for an eagle.

Még mindig golf, és még mindig nem tudom, vannak-e ezekre frappáns magyar kifejezések.

Minden segítséget köszönök.

"A par-nál eggyel kevesebb ütést birdie-nek (birdie = madárka) nevezzük."

"A par-nál kettővel kevesebb ütést eagle-nek (= sas) nevezzük."

an eagle is 2 strokes under par

I am sure, because I am chasing those eagles every other day on the golf course but rarely achieve any. If on a par 4 you shoot 3, that would be a birdie, if you shoot 2 it would be an eagle. The same of course applies for par 5's where an eagle would be 3 strokes. On a par 3, an eagle would be the equivalent of a hole-in-one.
Putting for an eagle means that you have arrived on the green, i.e. the putting surface, 3 strokes below par and that you are trying to hole out with the next stroke/put to get an eagle.
Hopefully this helps. All you need to do is get it into Hungarian now....

agree Will Matter : agree and the phrase should read 'putT for an eagle' not 'put'
