Italian term

ponte di stampa

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Printing & Publishing Printer/plotter
This term appears in the installation manual of a large scale laser-jet printer (I think it is used to print blueprints)):

"Area di stampa libera dall'ingombro del ponte di stampa la stampa comunque è effettuata per 210 cm in continuo."

The "ponte di stampa" looks like a "bridge" that spans the printing area. My tentative translation is "printing head." Is there a different term?

All suggestions are welcome.

Pompeo Lattanzi Jul 28, 2015:
as far as I know the printing head is a squarish box running up and down the "bridge". The ink actually comes out of a series of nozzles in the printing head, facing downwards, towards the printing material. Therefore the head is quite a different piece from the bridge. I confirm Barbara's suggestion.
NB It's irrelevant here, but if you were dealing with rotogravure printing, the "bridge" would be altogether another thing.

Barbara Carrara gave this answer long before you in a reference. I am waiting for her to enter it as an answer in order to enter it in the glossary and give the points to her. She deserves them.
