German term

Terminwohnung

Non-PRO German to English Other
Yes, this is a serious, professional question, apologies if I am offending anyone. A Terminwohnung is some kind of flat used in prostitution. I found the following definition, but not sure if it's correct:

Terminwohnung: Wohnung mit mindestens zwei Zimmern und wöchentlich wechselnden Mädchen, die ausschließlich auf "Termin" fahren, also jede Woche in einer anderen Stadt anzutreffen sind.

I have a text differentiating between "Wohnungsprostitution", massage and several other forms/locations, and "Terminwohnung". The "Wohnungsprostitution" is where a prostitute rents a flat for her own use, or shares it with someone. Anyone any idea what the "Terminwohnung" might be in English, though?

(Serious answers only please, and I certainly won't assume that anyone who knows this knows through personal experience. This is a translation for a prostitutes' organisation and not marketing or porn, btw.)

not a simple brothel hi folks

should maybe clarify - this is NOT the usual brothel (Laufhaus, Bordell) run by a madam or whatever, but a slightly different arrangment. Not quite sure is there a manager of some kind present, but doesn't appear to be.

Proposed translations

surely this is simply a "brothel" or what the French would call

a "maison close" (maison de rendez-vous), where male clients come to be "serviced" on rendezvous?

The may be a more modern word for "brothel" but I got off the banana boat too long ago to know !

house of call

was what I got looking up the Spanish version (casa de citas). However, this seems to have gone out of style in the 19th century:

Errr... here\'s a glossary compiling every kind of synonym for \"brothel\". Hope it helps:

"House of assignation"

By means of some rather complicted Googling, I found the following:

What was called

'Absteigequartier'. In the US, they call it hour hotel (you rent a room by the hour in a sleazy hotel) or a notch up, it's a 'discreet place' or 'keyhole apartment' (not because it's tiny, but the keyhole gets a workout, I guess, with all the coming and going)
