Discussion

Marie Martin Nov 14, 2013:
If the name of the collection of items is Heirloom, then it would stay in English, but here in Québec, if we are talking of a translation for the Québec Market, then it should be translated. As I have often translated product descriptions with the term Heirloom, I know it should be translated, either as "de style antique" ou "de style patrimonial" as opposed to be of a more contemporary or urban style
Ninon Dion (asker) Nov 14, 2013:
This is part of a larger project with a client that I've been working with for a while. There shouldn't be any issues.
AllegroTrans Nov 14, 2013:
Opinion "Ceramic Heirloom Egg Set" forms a whole description of an item, an advertising term in itself. In your position I would not try to translate this, but I would ask the client what they wish to call it in French. There may be trade description issues.
Ninon Dion (asker) Nov 14, 2013:
I need to specify that this is for a new product selling in wholesale catalogs, not an antique.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : In fact, it is only 'authentic' inasmuch as it is an egg-stand — but it's not, for example, a 'genuine antique'; I'd have though perhaps something like 'de style...' would really be needed here, non ?

Your product is probably based on the famous Hornsea factory design and so should carry a capital H.
Note from asker:
The product looks nothing like this. It's like a cake platter, but for deviled eggs.
