English term

up-hill from here

Non-PRO English to French Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
I have been able |to see peaks and valleys in this industry and I have made fortunes from both of them.
And right now we're in [company] in a stage where it's ***up-hill from here*** in a huge way.

merci

Daryo Nov 14, 2013:
I have been able |to see peaks and valleys in this industry and I have made fortunes from both of them.
And right now we're in [company] in a stage where it's up-hill from here in a huge way.

"And I just can't be excited enough to tell my friends, neighbors, |wife, children, kids...everyone I know is going to know about [company] in the next 12 months.

That sounds to me like the kind of mail-shot trying to convince people to buy shares in companies of dubious value;
what is says is that company XYZ can only go up "in a huge way", [i.e. shares are about to skyrocket] and the author is so excited about that good news that he can't refrain himself from proselytizing everyone in sight.

@Kashew yes you're right thank you
kashew Nov 14, 2013:
@ Asker "I just can't be excited enough to tell my friends" seems odd to me. Doesn't he mean "I just couldn't be more excited about telling my friends..."?
Sylvie LE BRAS (asker) Nov 14, 2013:
Voici la suite :
"And I just can't |be excited enough to tell my friends, neighbors, |wife, children, kids...everyone I know is going to know about |[company] in the next 12 months.

Peer comment(s):

neutral kashew : No, for me it's negative - very hard from now on. But let's wait for other views. // Up-hill is more often a struggle, but you could be right. ;-)

it's possible. I've seen people online discussing that expression and no clear answer emerges. More context would help understand
neutral Tony M : I agree, from the context, it's very obviously positive; however, I do feel that expressing it this way round changes the intention: it's like saying "it's all downhill from here"

Example sentence:

Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : the ST is not about "struggling up-hill"

disagree Tony M : Sorry, J, but have to agree with D.: here, the sense is 'the only way is up'.
