Italian term

confronto su

Italian to English Bus/Financial Management organisational synergies
Appears in the annual report of a telecommunications company in the following sentence discussing the synergies between two companies within its group:

Nel biennio 2011-2012 sono state conseguite sinergie per circa euro XXXX, derivanti in parte dall’estensione temporale di attività già in corso, in parte dall’allineamento delle piattaforme tecnologiche e da una sempre maggiore attenzione al ***confronto su*** servizi innovativi, nonché dal continuo miglioramento delle rispettive performances domestiche a seguito di condivisione di best practices.

Not sure how to translate "confronto su" in this context.

TIA,
Dominic

engagement with

I think what they mean is that they created synergies by paying greater attention to engagement with innovative services.

leave it out

I think the very fact that we've had so many different answers suggests that its meaning is vague, and it doesn't add anything to the sentence.

I'd translate "una sempre maggiore attenzione al ***confronto su*** servizi innovativi" as "an increasing focus on innovative services".

the challenge of

There are two possibilities here. One is that they just have to get to grips with innovative services and nail them, this is a challenge. The other is that they might currently be comparing different innovative services. In which case "the comparison of". Obviously you can reword these two interprations to fit the sentence construction.

@Phil
The term is commonly used in all the dryest of financial reports. This is just the first instance of many found in the first financial report I opened Lloyds 2011:
The considerable reductions in the Retail and Wholesale impairment charges reflect the benefit of the actions we have taken over the past two years and our ongoing effective risk management, as well as the
slowly improving economic environment. While we were disappointed by the increases in the International portfolios, these reflect specific economic challenges facing Ireland, and to some degree Australia, which we are managing closely.

neutral philgoddard : I don't feel this fits in a fairly dry discussion of a company's financial results.
