Greasepaint A waxy substance used as makeup by actors - is what is/was used in the theatre. Nowadays I think they just tend to say "makeup". The query refers to facepainting sticks or crayons.

Can you contact a friend in the theater? Such a person could possibly clarify a lot. This sounds to me like a technical term, frankly, a bit of jargon.

I don't really understand the context (is it a picture caption?), but do you need to translate this word at all? After all, the hand wouldn't be able to paint if it wasn't holding this object. Couldn't you just say "a hand painting a blue stripe?"

Cheers. I think greasepaint is what was/is used in the theatre, but maybe that's old hat now...

Charred or burnt stick

It has references to coal, black and stain. I think in this context it would be ok either to use a 'charred stick' or 'burnt stick' because of the painting reference.
