Complications associated with operative treatment of osteochondral fracture of weight-bearing portion of lateral femoral condyle caused by acute patellar dislocation are nonunion after fragment fixation, complications related to hardware for fracture fixation may also occur, proud screw heads may scuff articular surfaces, bioabsorbable implants may result in synovitis with sterile effusion, reccurent patellar instability with further osteochondral injury, secondary arthrosis of the knee joint, bleeding into the joint, arthrofibrosis or reflex sympathetic dystrophy.
