asistencia para UCF

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) adenocarcinoma
Hello

The report I am translating concerns a 59 year old man with ADENOCARCINOMA OF THE COLON (SIGMOID COLON) STAGE IIIC, multiple polyps and metachronic adenocarcinoma in situ, secondary to serrated adenoma. Until recently, he was a fairly heavy drinker.

This comes at the end of the report.

PLAN

recomiendo evitar ingesta enólica, pendiente de nueva colonoscopia. Presentaré en comité y lla. Hago propuesta de asistencia para UCF.

Thank you for any help.

right... thanks anyway, do let me know, David

@David. I am not certain to receive an answer from the client. The agency I did the translation for told me the client did not pay for proofreading, so the agency sent the translation direct to the client. Should I hear anything definitive, will post, but I rarely hear back from anybody, unless I have made an error of some kind:)
David Balayla May 31, 2012:
it would be good to know... the correct answer eventually, when your client gives you feedback on the translation. Then add to glossary so we can all benefit. Cheers Liz!

Indeed, but nobody is perfect:) We can sometimes tear our hair out:)

Minor details I think that a careful conscientious translator will try to do her/his best to address the minor details as well. So ... good work, and keep it up!
liz askew (asker) May 31, 2012:
Thank you Joseph! I sent off the translation a few hours ago. It was urgent, and as I put a footnote with all three possibilities, this was fine. To be honest, in a 6 page report, this was a minor detail. I think the English speaking doctors will see the overall picture:) Cheers!

Unidad de Cancer Familiar Hi Liz. Confirming one of your hypotheses: I find 21,000 google entries for this phrase ... possibly this is what they mean here.

One example: "La Unidad de Cáncer Familiar del Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal, que está en funcionamiento desde julio de 2010, ha atendido hasta el momento a 371 personas pertenecientes a más de 300 familias diferentes."

Good luck.

@neilmac
This is a tricky one indeed. There is only the one reference to this. The actual form used for referral to this unit is handwritten, mostly illegible and is a very poor copy, so I am opting for a footnote listing the possibilities:
1. Colonoscopy Unit
2. Palliative Care Unit
3. Family Cancer Unit
neilmac May 31, 2012:
Pax David It might be "Unidad de Cuidados Familiares", otherwise I don't see what the "F" could stand for. Am still backing "Paliativos", as colon cancer is painful.
liz askew (asker) May 31, 2012:
Hi, this is still not 100% clear to me. There is no other mention of this acronym in the text, and no mention of palliative care either...hmm I will put a footnote.
liz askew (asker) May 31, 2012:
Hi again, I have just thought that this could be a typo for UCP = Unidad de Cuidados Paliativos.

counselling/assistance from a Family Cancer Unit

ucf: UNIDAD DE CANCER FAMILIAR ?? I am only guessing. It doesn't sound like the patient is ready for palliative care since a new, confirmation collonoscopy is scheduled.
Note from asker:
Hi, I think it is Coloproctoscopy Unit

neutral neilmac : Algún variante de "oncologia" me parece más indicado...

Note from asker:
Hi, I have asked the other contributor to put both answers in the glossary. Thanks for your help!
