Arresto di corsa

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering ascensori

Selected

limit stop

This is the standard translation and seems to be used for lifts/elevators too.

I remembered it from years ago before the internet was invented when I got it from my ancient and trusty Marolli Dictionary. Good to know that Google confirms its accuracy. In those days you had little choice but to take the dictionaries on pure trust.
I was tempted to put "limit switch", because when the elevator hits the stop, the stop trips a switch (limit switch) which stops the lift trying to move.
Note from asker:
you are so right! thanks! I just couldn't remember that, and I also had it in front of my eyes here http://www.lipsie.com/it/glossario_meccanico.htm silly me! [hand on forehead]
