Thai term

เละตุ้มเป๊ะ

Thai to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Northeast Slang?
For example, features in the chorus of คำมอด พรขุนเดช's song วิ่งว่าว [http://youtu.be/O1MPhgbWukU], other partying contexts which don't appear very severe, and contexts where there is no partying. Something along the lines of "smashed", "wiped out"?? Longdo has this under "washout [SL] ความล้มเหลวไม่มีชิ้นดี. See also: ความเละตุ้มเป๊ะ". Maybe "washed out" would be closer.

Discussion

Peter Ross (asker) Dec 5, 2011:
เละตุ้มเป๊ะ Hi everyone. Something went wrong with my grading options for this term. I wanted to say "a washout" (one that fails to measure up - Merriam Webster) CAN be translated as but เละตุ้มเป๊ะ (though "washout" is idiomatic, not slang) but if you need to translate the base meaning of เละตุ้มเป๊ะ as described by snowyash, "washout" doesn't do it. I'm still unclear about the abstract/metaphorical meaning(s) of เละตุ้มเป๊ะ e.g. a person who... but from the videoclip, I'd guess (i) is the couple getting drunk (totally wasted, totally smashed, off their faces -slang) and (ii) is when in the end she leaves him its because it turns out he's a total washout (OR all washed up - idiomatic). "The shit hits the fan" I think is little too wide of the mark. Thank you all.

Completely smashed/destroy/messed up

This is a slang to describe an item or group of item has been destroy to the most messy state. Picture a watermelon being smashed on the floor and it's skin, meat, juice are everywhere... That's the meaning of this phrase.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This description of the base meaning that isn't listed anywhere is the closest to the one I need to translate. Using "totally" helps for a slang expression, and "smashed" connects a bit with เละ. I also like "totally wasted." Smashed and Wasted also work for the party/drunken usage but not for the "washout" meaning."

The shit has hit the fan!

ฺทั้งสองวลีต่างเป็นแสลงในภาษาไทยและภาษาอังกฤษ เลยคิดว่าถ้าแปลต้นคำที่เป็นแสลงก็ต้องรักษาสถานะแสลงไว้ค่ะ
