French term

court particulier

French to English Other Cosmetics, Beauty hair styling
Long glacé, court particulier, double mixte ou simple dames, les matières, les longueurs, les couleurs s’opposent, et toutes se prêtent à la transformation sous les ciseaux des experts de Maniatis.

I am translating the press release on the latest hairstyling trends produced by Maniatis. The previous paragraph emphasised the dichotomy between innocence and provocativeness, seemingly innocent looking women and femmes fatales, cool blondes and mysterious brunettes. The play on words here is proving difficult to translate in a similar style and I would appreciate any suggestions.

short and sassy

this actually comes with plently of pictures of hairstyles on google, and does conjure up to me the 'coy, impudent bob' sort of style
I wonder how you will tie this in with the long icy blonde!

Thank you! Still wondering how you tackled the others!
Note from asker:
I had to submit the translation by 1pm today, and by chance I actually used your phrase (short and sassy), so great minds think alike and you can certainly have the points!

shorty

In French "cours particulier" is something like "personnal class/course" but also has a bit of a naughty meaning. For example: "t'as eu un cours particulier de langues?" meaning that the "teacher" and you had a kiss.
I know that in Frenc, a "shorty" is a king of underwear so we could find this play on word with "short" for the word "court". But I don't think "shorty" in English is an underwear...
Though, I hope my point of view can help you to find a good translation!
Note from asker:
I think the 'naughty' idea is what is required here, as they have been emphasising the fact that the models appear innocent but really are far from it! In English 'private lessons' (cours particuliers) can mean something quite naughty, so there is definitely a play on words here. But it is difficult to convey the play on cours and court in English

smashing cut

I thinking that with "smashing" you have the tennis metaphor and the exceptional aspect of the haircut.
Note from asker:
I think the tennis metaphor is a bit confusing here - we should stick with the 'nice but naughty' imagery if possible.
