Glossary entry (derived from question below)
French term or phrase:
un joli nez
English translation:
an attractive nose
French term
un joli nez
I don't want to say 'a fine nose' - can anyone think of something more accurate and appropriate?

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

a delightful bouquet
I recently translated something for Hachette, who sent me a "style guide" with the following comment about "nose".
nose: be careful with notes including “nose”. Avoid small or big/large or similar adjectives with nose. Try Restrained, light or delicate INSTEAD OF small; plenty of, or evolved, generous or expressive INSTEAD OF big/large. Consider replacing with aroma or bouquet. Avoid expressions such as “keeping a tight hold on its nose” try instead “the aroma has not yet evolved”.

a delightful/appealing/beautiful/pleasing/attractive/charming/(even, dare I say it, "nice")...nose/bouquet/aroma
That makes twenty-one suggestions!
The choice depends on the register - magazine article, back of a wine label, serious tasting note, etc.
Many thanks for the tips Mark. |

And another:
Clos de la Chapelle, Instinct NV Champagne
From a group of independent growers from premier cru village Villedommange. 60% Pinot Meunier, 25% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay.
Very pretty nose with mouth-filling fruit and delicate mousse. Nothing in excess though it's certainly not the driest champagne you'll find. Just the sort of fizz you'd be thrilled with at a party.
£23.50 The Sampler
Big floral, pretty nose with peach and melon notes. Attractive but slightly 'techno' wine. Dry and reasonably full on palate.
