The battle for a proper fiscal consolidation in the developed world is still in its infancy and waiting to be implemented. In that regard, the gold market will ***not give governments the benefit of the doubt*** - quite the opposite. Concerns related to the euro and the fiscal position of the US government should haunt markets throughout 2011. Hence, we are confident that investment demand for gold in 2011 will fill the demand gap of XXX tons and tighten the supply/demand balance.


Der Kampf um eine nachhaltige Konsolidierung der Staatsfinanzen in der entwickelten Welt hat gerade erst begonnen, und die Umsetzung dürfte noch einige Zeit auf sich warten lassen. ...

Wie versteht ihr den zweiten Satz und vor allem, wie könnte man ihn übersetzen? Der Autor will uns ja wohl sagen, dass die Finanzmärkte durch die Schuldenkrise in Europa, die hohe Verschuldung der USA usw belastet werden und die Goldnachfrage und -preis deshalb steigen werden.

Ich verstehe es folgendermaßen (ist allerdings etwas frei und deckt sich auch nicht mit der Grundbedeutung von "to give sb the benefit of the doubt):
Die Regierungen werden sich angesichts der Entwicklung am Goldmarkt keinen Illusionen hingeben können. (aber brauchen die dafür den Goldpreis als Indikator?)
