I assume it means "name of the lecture subject." Question is, how to trim the redundancies?

Thanks.

My alternative translation is to eliminate redundancy. See: http://www.division2d13.org/Webfiles/D2MTSchedule.pdf

agree JoelD : Yes, it is course (or subject) name. Nothing there to indicate whether it's a lecture or a seminar. Simple is best.

course subject

I'm a little unsure of this one, but I think 受講 is taken to mean course, ie seminars as well lectures.

Not too sure about what it has to do with trimming redundancies - I used to work in a law firm where we would advise on how to manage a redundancy procedure "reasonably" (ie not leave the employer open to unfair dismissal claims) - in this case they may be comparing student numbers for each subject to make the claim that redundancies are necessary for certain subjects. The key is find objective criteria - comparing student numbers would seem to be objective, as long as the comparison was done over a number of years.

Or am I completely off track...

wow! I couldn't have been further off track!

Are you in North or South Manc? I'm in Swinton.

Note from asker:
Sorry, my bad; I meant the phrase "name of the lecture subject" seems unnatural and likely contains target-language redundancies.
Hi, Jeremy; south Manchester so not so far.

agree humbird : No need to be tripped by "名". Talk of a redundancy, most of Japanese writing are full of them. Also references to "courses" in higher education, "subject" fits better.

now I'm starting to understand "redundancy" - cheers humbird

lecture name / course name

Since 受講者 is defined as a student attending a lecture or class, I think lecture name or course name can describe your term without redundancies.
