French term

retour intempestif

French to English Tech/Engineering Human Resources workplace health and safety
from a safety document for working in enclosed spaces, usually with dangerous substances and conditions.
CAN french:

Mesures de prévention pour les risques identifiés
Nettoyage, vidange et retour intempestif

Then it gives a list of procedures to follow on cleaning, draining etc.

I am guessing it means unexpected or accidental....reaction? recovery?
It's really the first time I've ever seen that phrase and i've done a few of these documents.

Thanks for your help!

closed without grading interesting - so what was the answer then ?
Marlene Blanshay (asker) Oct 8, 2010:
yes, backflow was my other choice and I forgot to enter it. Accidental backflow or reflux, but probably backflow.
thanks
Desdemone (X) Oct 8, 2010:
If they're talking about fluids, I would say backflow

accidental splashing

Is that sufficiently technical? It certainly seems to be what the source is talking about.

So much depends on context - here it may be important to know who will be reading the instructions. Do they need technical terms or should a non-technical person (cleaning personnel, perhaps?) be able to understand them?

accidental backflow

Well, backflows are mostly accidental, so I believe this option would do, unless you should want a backflow to take place for some technical reason.
