Spanish term

zona de pulmón (NOT medical)

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Energy / Power Generation solar (parabolic trough)
Spain: procedure manual for assembling parabolic trough in the field: section on procedure in case of high winds, thunderstorm, etc. This is weird... but maybe local lingo? "Si por alguna razón no se puede depositar el módulo en el sitio donde se esté montando hay que establecer una zona de pulmón o emergencia cerca de la nave de ensamblaje de CCP donde sea menor el peligro." The idea is clear enough... just wondering if this phrase has some special import? Thanks for any insight.

stand-by/temporary

I have had this in another context meaning "intermediate", so I hope this helps.

A "pulmón" in this context...

is indeed a buffering device (like the buffer tank you have between a compressed air source and the device that uses it, or (though it is more aptly denominated "compensador" in this case) the extending rolls you have between the end of a coil winding device and a cutter: While cutting, the incoming foil / sheet is taken by a number of diverging rolls to avoid any temporary slack).

The problem here is that I understand that this refers to a piece of equipment that has to be, either mounted or -if not possible- stored somewhere, temporarily. I see no reason for the "buffering" concept here.

Well, buffer it might be, but I would use "shelter" (or at least this concept) here.

I repeat it: You should be paid twice here -first job is to translate into proper Spanish and then into English.
Note from asker:
This is probably the same author as the last doc I was working on.... remember how you loved that one? ;-) If the PCCs are put next to "la nave", the building acts as a buffer between them and high winds... I guess.
As for being paid twice... you certainly have a point. I'll tell the agency you said so, and we'll see what happens ;-)
