I have no objections to "load test"; my objection was to "load test equivalent to ...". When you speak about a wing load test for an airplane, it is fair and even necessary to characterise the test load as "equivalent", because any such test will be only a simulation. When you test a pipe assembly, there is no difference between test load and work load, and the only parameter of the load is pressure.

It is a disservice to the reader to make things appear more complex (or more meaningful) than they are. Life is short and brainpower is limited.

Since I don't seem to be able to respond to comments (they vanish on submission); my question to Liz is: what kind of "equivalent" load test can you imagine for a pipe, other than forcing a gas or a fluid into it? What you are trying to say, following the original text, is "put under pressure equivalent to the operating pressure".
