Spanish term

metalizado/metalizar

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Science (general) Nanotechnology
Good morning

I would appreciate some help with this phrase in a text about a Spanish's company's involvement with nanotechnology and its applications.

My effort:

XXX has an endless list of activities, but its main business is centred on creating applications to improve plastics. It is developing a very new process of coating plastic with metal which is replacing the present method. This avoids the use of hexavalent chromium, a highly toxic and carcinogenic substance. The XXXX project not only consists of eliminating toxic substances, but also allows plastics to be coated in metal at a lower cost than conventional plastics.

Thank you!

Think you're right about the economics part - have a good weekend!
Note from asker:
Thank you! Must have had an innate aversion to this word, don't know why!! Also, UK English = metallisation. Although this text is to be reviewed by an American:) Odd the client doesn't ask an American to do the translation? Maybe it's economics.
