Spanish term

Como ocurre en la especie

Non-PRO Spanish to English Other Other An attorney addressing a judge
In the following passage, an attorney, or probably the defendant, talks to the judge, saying, "Cabe destacar que aun cuando el juzgador goza de prudente arbitrio para otorgar eficacia a las declaraciones de los testigos que les merezcan confianza, no es menos cierto que esa facultad no debe quebrantar (como ocurre en la especie) las normas de la lógica.

What does that mean--the part about "como ocurre en la especie"?

Thanks. Silly me. I thought he was referring to the fact that the human species often breaks the rules of Logic.
