Looking for a Russian alternative of Upward. Will appreciate your input. This is the name of a widespread sports ministry in US. I guess the name is based on looking upward in the sense of looking up on Jesus. How could this name translate into Russian? Is often used in combination with Upward Sports, Upward Soccer, Upward Bastekball...

"Ввысь" -- as a short slogan,
"Устремленный ввысь" as an adjective like in `Upward Soccer'.
Another version "Восходящий", though it does not seem that exalted as "устремленный ввысь"

Basically, in Russian they usually call sports programmes for youth, say, \"Восходящие звезды\" (Ascending Stars) or \"Hope for the future\". And no religious connotations is ever implied in sports here, at least as far as I know, so it is really hard to find something similar and natural in Russian.

\"Устремленный к небесам\" seems to me the best term, then. \"Небеса\" is Heavens in religious sense as well as some high goal to be aimed to. The expression also sounds sublime enough to fit both the religious and noble sports context.

As for sports games with ball \"возвышенный\" or \"устремленный ввысь, к небесам\" sounds ok, IMHO. It bears some semblance with a \"skied ball\" (not in bad sense). A ball thats flies high and is transformed into a symbol of something more than just a ball -- a feat, a summit of achievement, someone trying to get to the apex.

: "устремленный ввысь" literally means 'aiming to take to the sky' . I don't think it would go well with sports.

По-моему, тут два понятия смешаны, и это вызывает смешение эмоций и реакций
Религия, возвышенность и вера - это одно.
Big business и пропаганда - это совсем другое. Видимо, это другое и вызывает смешанные чувства:) Не так ли?
Непонятно, причём тут спорт к Б-гу. А они, т.е. владельцы Upward TM , хотят, чтобы ассоциировали всю деятельность, которой они покровительствуют в собственных целях, как божественную и святую, освящённую. Но вообще-то, конечно, лучше чтоб дети играли в футбол и ходили в церковь, чем потребляли наркотики. Так что и это можно понять...
В общем, интересная задача. Легко её отмести, но в тоже время задумываешься - если Б-гу угодно существование спорта - значит, это хорошо!

we don't want to play soccer in the mountains. Maybe it should not be poetic? What if Upward was not intended to be poetic but rather something catchy and not sounding religious? Just an idea. So far I only have this kind of ideas.
