There is a difference between Sheriff and Mayor of a city.
The sherriff deals with the enforcement of laws that have been created by the legislature. He has no power over creating these laws, simply has the responsibility for making sure they are followed.
The mayor oversees the day-to-day operations of the local government. He'll have funds city funds that he can allocate for different purposes. He neither creates nor enforces the laws that govern the city.

| As far as I understand I will translate "Sheriff" as مأمور either the episode was American or British. I got that مأمور is not عمدة at all because the عمدة is like the governer in the sense that he sets rules and make laws. Thanks a lot for your time and effort :) |
