: refers to singular (i.e., area), not plural (spaces); also would use "rotation" in this case (not "rotating") to avoid confusion with the mechanisms that physically rotate cars (auto shops, etc.)

After the colon, the text is in plural. Also, we all know that not all singulars are singular and not all plurals are plural when translating. With regards to your second comment, it's purely a matter of taste.
