poiche per quanto riguarda il montaggio video (o audio) il termine utilizzato è editing.sia in pre-produzione, che in montaggio ed anche in post-produzione.
il termine assembly si riferisce all'assemblaggio di qualcosa di materiale, quale un mobile o simili.
quindi editing e cut somo i termini che puoi utilizzare in un contesto del genere.

'Editing' refers to the cutting and splicing of the film.
'Montage' refers to the selection and arrangement of these separate sections(as you will see in the link given below from a university film course).

It's too late now of course, but perhaps you should have waited more than four minutes before choosing your answer, and checked out Enza's answer before rejecting it. Had you checked out the second reference given for 'assembly' (which is, as writeaway has pointed out, WRONG), you should have noted that it was written by a non-native in virtually unintelligible English !!
