agree Kathy Ann Mutz : The terms Requerente and Requerido are used in Jurisdição Voluntária, as is the case in adoption proceedings, and they are analagous to Autor / Réu in Jurisidição Contenciosa. English does not make this distinction, so defendant/respondant can be used.

Someone requested to do something, in this case the biological parents. Unless someone is being accused of a crime, I don't think the term "defendant" should apply.

Referring to the decree made in this cause on the 4th October 2000, whereby it was decreed that the marriage solemnized on the 6th September 1991 at The Register Office in the District of Westminster in the City of Westminster.

be dissolved unless sufficient cause be shown to the Court within six weeks from the making thereof why the said decree should not be made absolute, and no such cause having been shown, it is hereby certified that the said decree was on the 12th September 2001, made final and absolute and that the said marriage was thereby dissolved.
