German to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering refrigerators
(I can't decide whether this is mechanical engineering or physics!) Context sentence "Das Gasvolumen wird mit einem bestimmten Druck im Kompressor zusammengepresst, wodurch es sich erwärmt und der **Volumendruck** größer geworden ist." This is part of the description of how a refrigerator works, and I think it is not very well expressed. It presumably means that increasing the temperature of a gas will increase its pressure if the volume is constant... or perhaps it means that compressing the gas reduces the volume (by definition!) and increases the pressure, which is a tendency to increase the volume.

Google hits are admittedly not everything, or necessarily reliable and should be handled with care, but if there are none, then there is definite cause for concern. If there aren't any hits with both langauges you can still oftne find definitoons in both. Also, have you tried Linguee? A very useful site!

No Google hits? Google hits are usually very useful but do not necessarily tell me how to translate something. I have not found a definition of "volumetric pressure" which, in any case, looks to me like a self-contradiction since pressure is, by definition, force per unit area. In all the Google hits for "volumetric pressure" that I have looked at, "volumetric" means "using a volumetric method" and does not qualify "pressure". Even if my translation is not an "official" translation of Volumendruck, at least my translated sentence is a true statement: the pressure-volume product does increase when the gas is compressed and becomes hotter, since P.V/T is constant for a given mass of gas.

pressure exerted by the gas / gas pressure

it's not the Gasvolumen but the Gas that's being compressed, and it's the temperature of the Gas (again not the Gasvolumen) that rises

and it makes more sense to me if it's the Gasdruck and not the Volumendruck (whatever that is) that increases

(Volumendruck - maybe the author means the pressure exerted by the gas when it has been compressed to a certain volume)

It may sound horribly literal to some, but "volume pressure" is also used in English.
