English term

lie in

Non-PRO English Art/Literary Religion
The Bible drama next shows God turning his attention away from the global scene to focus on one man, Abraham. God took him in hand and taught him the foundations of a better and righteous world order. The future did not ***lie in*** war and corruption. He spread before Abraham his plan to bless all families on earth, beginning with Abraham’s own family. The Lord persisted with that family for long centuries, turbulent and rebellious as its members were, but his purpose never faltered for behind it lay the most powerful of all driving forces – love.

What is the sense here?
