English term

Rooster of hospitality

English to Spanish Art/Literary Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
In a list of memories of somebody's autobiography I find, "Mom, Dad and the **rooster of hospitality**"
I wonder if there's any saying that will be equivalent and that I could use, rather than the literal one that does not convince me!
Thank you all for your help!

Sylvina (asker) Jun 25, 2009:
¡Muchas gracias Ricardo!
Ricardo Obando Jun 25, 2009:
Of course!!!!

Christine Walsh Jun 25, 2009:
Gallo que da la bienvenida? Just an idea.
Sylvina (asker) Jun 24, 2009:
Well finally I've just received the picture, and it is indeed a real rooster, un gallo!!.
Bubo Coroman (X) Jun 24, 2009:
Ricardo, I hadn't thought of that possibility..... but now that you mention it, it's perfectly feasible. Hopefully Sylvina's client will explain all!
Noni Gilbert Riley Jun 24, 2009:
Roster? My reaction too on opening Proz this morning...
Ricardo Obando Jun 23, 2009:
Cock of the Walk? ¿No será parecido a "cock of the walk"? ¿El líder o número uno en hospitalidad?
Porque "roster of hospitality" a secas no me suena. Sería "roster of hospitality establishments" o algo así.
Sylvina (asker) Jun 23, 2009:
No more context. I'm asking the author if there's a typing mistake. Will let you guys know. Thanks a lot for your help!
Christine Walsh Jun 23, 2009:
Lydia De Jorge Jun 23, 2009:
are you sure it's ROOSTER AND NOT ROSTER??
Christine Walsh Jun 23, 2009:
Rooster? No podría ser 'roster'? Tendría más sentido.
patinba Jun 23, 2009:
Hospitality rooster/roster Is this a list, or a very welcoming farmyard animal?

Have you searched the text of the autobiography to see if there are any roosters? Is the text from the southern U.S.? There is a connection between roosters and "Southern hospitality", e.g.:

Every morning the rooster would crow and the house would get busy. ... Southern hospitality is something that sinks into the heart and I honestly believe stays with you a lifetime.

The rooster's woke us up every morning with their cock-a doodle-do's .

Thanks for the note Sylvia! Just to mention, while you're waiting to hear back from your client, and although I'm not asking you to post the author's name here because it's a public site, if you type his or her name in Google along with "rooster" and/or "hospitality" it might turn up some relevant information. At any rate, hopefully you won't need to wait long for your reply.

Sorry Sylvina, I spelt your name wrong by mistake. It's a lovely name!
Note from asker:
Deborah your explanation seems to fit in the very little context that I have. The items that I'm translating are the texts that will head every slide on a powerpoint presentation. The slides will only contain a picture. And I have not received the pictures so far!. I've requested my client to email at least this one to me asap and I think it will clarify what he meant. Thank you for your input. I think you're just right!
This is killing me! Y todavía no tengo la foto... Les cuento pronto... ¡¡GRACIAS!!
Peer comment(s):

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you Deborah!, I think I will finally translate it like: "Mamá y Papá con el gallo de la hospitalidad". From all the suggestions made I think yours "enlightened" me more (and said that I have a lovely name! thank you!) ;) "

embajador o guru

Hope that helps! Suerte!

Someone who exudes or "shouts out" (like a rooster!) hospitality. No se si me explico. Or maybe it was meant to be roster :)
